This week's opera highlights include Mahler's Rückert-Lieder and Symphony No. 4 performed at the Philharmonie de Paris, a tribute video to Ileana Cotrubas featuring her rendition of 'Parigi, o cara' from La traviata, and Renée Fleming's new work exploring themes of the Anthropocene. Performances of Berlioz's La Damnation de Faust take place in London's Royal Albert Hall and at the Berlioz Festival in La Côte-Saint-André, while Strasbourg's Saint-Guillaume venue opens its season with a Handel opera, featuring Roberto Alagna later this year. In Torre del Lago, Puccini's La fanciulla del West is led by conductor Valerio Galli, known as the 'ace in the hole'.
