Bernie Taupin, Elton John's longtime lyricist, is releasing his first solo album after 40 years, marking a significant departure from his collaborative work. He discusses his decision not to monetize his music catalog, his past songwriting contributions including a 1985 No. 1 hit and a 1971 Elton John classic inspired by a relationship with Cher, and his limited engagement with contemporary music, citing a lack of radio listening. His new album reflects a personal artistic shift while reaffirming his enduring legacy in songwriting.
