James Blood Ulmer, an avant-garde guitarist and singer known for his fusion of blues, jazz, and rock, has died at the age of 86. He was a key figure in the jazz avant-garde and a longtime collaborator of Ornette Coleman. Tributes have been paid by musicians including Mal Waldron and Bria Skonberg.
